Great Egret Landing with a Fish Story
"Seriously, I had it in my beak for a few seconds, and it was this long! I so wish you could have seen it!"
Barred Owl Watching Squirrel
This owl was so focused on trying to catch the squirrel taunting it, that it seemed to not care I was there.
American Bittern on Point
This was the moment before this bittern speared a salamander at Ridgefield NWR. The low evening sun mad the reflections in the water look like liquid gold.
Rufous Hummingbird
This was is my favorite Rufous shot!
Anna's Hummingbird Visiting Crimson Salvia
She was getting her fill of the Salvia nectar on that summer morning.
Ring-necked Pheasant
To find this grass-dwelling bird on Steigerwald's Gibben's Creek drinking from a log while allowing the still water to reflect its image was special. One of those moments where you think to yourself, "oh, this is going to be good! I hope I got it."
Three Bald Eagles
I composited this shot by first photographing the two sitting on the branches, and then sliding the focus over to their approaching friend. I liked the way the middle eagle is looking at the approaching one. This is a throw away without the flying eagle. It makes sense as to the reality of the situation.
Hairy Woodpecker
This was a very active individual. It was taking the moss and lichens off a tree trunk to get at something more tasty. You can see the debris flying, but it managed to hold still enough for this slow and dark photo to be taken.
Anna's Hummingbird
This male loved visiting the wild currant near the parking lot of Steigerwald Lake NWR
Great Blue Heron
This heron seemed to know exactly where to stand to make the perfect heron, log, and reflective fall background. Thanks, buddy!
Northern Harrier Hen
She glided low across the wetland landscape searching for the unwary rodent.
